Causes of Failure of Electrical Equipment

The main contribution to failure of any system is human. The human caused failures are due to following reasons:-

  1. Poor workmanship – during manufacture of electrical equipments, transit(while moving of carrying from one place to another) , during installation of equimpents and due to incorrect operations.
  2. Lack of experience, knowledge & willingness towards work.
  3. Lacking consistency of self-improvement.

The other non-technical reasons behind failures may be:-

  1. Deficiency of capital.
  2. Lack of time – production target to be achieved

The technical reasons behind failures of system:-

  1. Wear and tear of rotating, moving parts
  2. Atmospheric affects (Moisture, dust etc.)
  3. Aging of parts in load
  4. Long shutdowns
  5. Unpredicted large change in load
  6. Unpredicted large change in supply
  7. Failure of any other equipment in same supply
  8. No periodic maintenance
  9. Loose connections
